Threat Alert Service (KTP)

Descriptions

Review the descriptions below to understand what each delivery option entails to determine how you best benefit from KTP services

Contact types:

  • A Primary contact would be an individual who receives KTP alerts, is an implementer of the companies Internet Security practices, is responsible for the renewal of AV Licenses, and would be the first point of contact for anything out of the ordinary. This individual would also know active recipients of KTP alert at the company. This individual may be contacted by KTP team for confirmation of up to date company email addresses or in the case of urgent matters pertaining to the KTP service or antivirus issues.

  • A Secondary contact would be someone who receives KTP alerts and could fully utilize the KTP services but not necessarily know other co-workers subscribed to the KTP program and therefore wouldn't be contacted by KTP team unless they initiated communication.

Virus Alerts:

  • McAfee Alerts - A subscriber may request to receive email alerts from McAfee on a 24 by 7 basis. This means a subscriber would receive all alerts from McAfee. This may become cumbersome as Low risk alert may not require action just to update signature files when they are made available

  • High and Medium only - A subscriber would consider opting for just medium to high alerts if they were concerned with the volume of email that would be associated with receiving all alerts. These alerts would include any alert that requires action regardless of the impact the threat is currently having in the wild. Medium risk viruses can sometimes start out as a Low risk threat but can escalate to Medium or High as more is learned about the threat or it increases in prevalence. These alerts are delivered via email only and during regular business hours.

  • All Alerts (High, Medium and Low) - Unless the KTP team is informed otherwise subscribers will receive KTP all alerts. This means the discovery of any virus or release of update, patch of upgrade that is deemed serious enough to warrant a notification will be delivered via email to KTP subscribers. KTP Low risk alerts are, by far, the most common and require upgrading to the most recent daily DAT file. The information in the alerts offers a means to identify and possibly block the threat as well as symptoms and removal instructions in the case of infection. Choose this option to be thoroughly informed and proactive. Again, these alerts are delivered via email only and during regular business hours.

Signature updates?

Email attachments- KTP doesn't typically deliver DAT files as an attachment due to the size of the files. However if a subscriber has difficult retrieving a signature file or upgrade files from our website or McAfee we will ensure deliver of the required file by whatever means possible.

Email notification with Download Link - This option is the default setting for subcribers who want to be notified of all updates and upgrades. You will receive an email with details on the release and a link to the update.
